If you’re reading this chances are you already practice Jiu-Jitsu, jūjutsu, bjj, self-defense, submission grappling or whatever else you want to call the act of tactfully disabling or disarming an opponent. Moving with Intention

For anyone who has done a sport with any level of partner assisted drilling or contact, the sensation of someone moving without control will be at some level familiar. Grappling is no different; it becomes very easy to identify the difference between someone who is moving without control or without thought and someone who is moving with intention. 

I’d like to explore this topic in a bit more depth, discussing learning to move with intention, why intention is so important and the place of intentional movement in our broader lives.

The Devil is in the Detail: Paying attention to the small things and being detail oriented.

One of the most important aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the importance of details. When executing a technique, there a certain number of details you must incorporate to perform the move correctly and efficiently. Being detail oriented can make for slow progress at times, however later progression becomes accelerated as your execution of techniques (once learned) never hits a critical mass of errors that lead to the technique being applied failing.

The phrase: “The Devil is in the Detail” is profoundly true within BJJ for this reason. However, understanding and committing to a Detail Oriented approach can have major benefits for any other aspect of your life too.
